SCR stands for selective catalytic reduction. A chemical reaction converts nitrogen oxides to water and pure nitrogen. The conversion process is aided by a synthetically produced, diluted urea solution (AdBlue®) delivered via a separate storage tank. The advantage of SCR technology is an optimal combustion process within the engine coupled with increased efficiency. A second tank system for AdBlue® needs to be installed in the vehicle. The necessary equipment as well as the delivery and replenishment of the urea solution itself mean additional costs associated with using this technology.
