Knotter production
The CLAAS knotter. It was patented in 1921 for CLAAS and for a long time was the company logo. Our products are renowned for their outstanding knot strength.
For manufacturing control, the Kanban system is used. The assembly line orders the required sub-assemblies from the various production workshops. Each individual part has a number and during manufacture receives a card. The cards travel with the parts through the entire production process. In this way, prefabricated subassemblies are produced from individual parts and from subassemblies complete machines are produced. The Kanban system prevents large warehouse inventories of individual parts and preassembled subassemblies.
For the knotter, what really matters is adhering to the quality standards. The cast parts of the knotter are produced at CLAAS Casting in Bad Saulgau. Before installation, every knotter is checked on a test stand for operational reliability. Only if the knotter has passed the operational test on the test stand is it approved for installation.
Knotters are installed in the QUADRANT today. But also for the MARKANT, which is built for CLAAS in Korea, the factory in Metz produces up to 2,500 knotters in a year. CLAAS has already produced a total of two million knotters.
