Painting
Paint protects the valuable machine from rust. CLAAS places a great amount of value on the adherence to the highest quality demands. All sheet metal parts are hot-dip galvanised, then, like the other parts, are carefully washed, phosphated, and then primed and provided with the surface lacquer that is typical for CLAAS. All parts are painted before assembly. In this way it is ensured that parts that are bolted together are optimally protected against rust. The machine is exceptionally well protected and therefore has a high resale value.
All fasteners, such as bolts, nuts, washers, pins, spring clips, etc., as well as parts that move, such as springs, but also parts in which paint would interfere, as is the case for the retainer plates of the knotter, are chromed. This means they are provided with a very hard chrome coating and, thus, effectively protected against rust.
